Here's the proposed schedule for the week: (subject to change)

10 days of camping, immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes and rich culture of Armenia. This well-crafted journey begins with a day in the vibrant capital, Yerevan, followed by three days in the enchanting Areni province. After a relaxing day in a Lori hotel, the adventure continues with five days of camping in the picturesque Lori province, concluding with a final day in Yerevan. Itinerary:

• Day 1: Yerevan - City Charms Explore the lively streets of Yerevan, soaking in the rich history and contemporary culture of the Armenian capital. Visit iconic landmarks, sample local cuisine, and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

• Day 2-4: Areni Province - Wine and Wonders Venture into Areni province, known for its wine culture and archaeological marvels. Spend three days exploring ancient caves, hiking through scenic gorges, and indulging in the local winemaking traditions that have stood the test of time.

• Day 5: Lori Hotel Retreat Enjoy a day of relaxation in a Lori hotel, recharging your energy for the upcoming camping adventure. Unwind in comfort and soak in the atmosphere of this tranquil region.

• Day 6-10: Camping in Lori - Nature's Embrace Set up camp in the heart of Lori province, surrounded by lush forests and mountainous landscapes. Spend five days immersing yourself in the beauty of nature, embarking on hikes, and experiencing the serenity of campfire nights beneath the stars.

• Day 11: Yerevan Farewell Bid farewell to the enchanting Lori province and return to Yerevan for a final day of reflection. Capture the essence of your adventure, perhaps revisiting favorite spots or discovering new ones, before heading out with a trove of cherished memories.

Trip: $1400 Embarking on a backpacking tour through the captivating landscapes of Armenia comes at a reasonable cost of $1900 USD total. COVID CONSIDERATIONS: passengers are NO LONGER REQUIRED to present a COVID-19 PCR test or a Certificate of complete vaccination against COVID-19 to enter the Republic of Armenia.

As for requirements while IN Armenia, everything is open. No masking or anything else is required.

Airfare: Get yourself to Armenia however you can - costs run about $800-$1100 from Washington DC, $900 from JFK. If you need help with routing and getting your tickets, contact Chuck and he can help you get the best routing.  Flights out of Washington DC are about $1100 on Austrian/United, with a 14-hour layover in Vienna (arrive 8 am depart 10 pm) so you can see the sights in Austria for a day.  Shorter flights are available on Qatar Airways through Doha, but the price is about the same. There is a good routing direct from DC to Athens, but you'll have to stay the night there, and you'll have enough time to see the sights and enjoy the beach for an hour or two before hopping the 3-hour flight from Athens to Yerevan.  The absolute cheapest flights sometimes go through Istanbul.

 Try to be reasonable with what you pack, but definitely bring enough cargo space to take home some souvenirs!  Armenia has some of the best handicrafts you'll find anywhere in the world, and its wines and apricot brandy are world-famous.
